My writing portfolio

Dr Anthea Lacchia

Do you need a science or nature writer, a content writer or a journalist? I have over 15 years of professional writing experience, covering stories about science, environment, animals, nature, fossils, science policy, research culture and universities for a number of outlets, including the Guardian, Noteworthy, the Journal.ie, Nature, the Irish Times, RTE', Wings, Mountaineering Ireland's Mountain Log magazine, Passive House plus magazine, and Green News. Most recently, I worked as Ireland Correspondent for Research Professional, covering research policy news in Ireland (2021-2023).

I'm a regular contributor to DK's science books for children and adults. Titles worked on include: Water Cycles, Life Cycles, The Science of the Earth, Timelines of Everything, and Knowledge Encyclopedia Earth.

I love to write creatively about nature, including for literary magazines such as Tamarind and Consilience (poetry). Over the years, I've produced and presented audio for BBC's Digital Planet programme. I have an MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College London, a Diploma in Journalism from the National Council for the Training of Journalists in the UK, and a certificate in creative non-fiction writing from University of Cambridge.

I've won a number of awards and grants for my writing and science communication work (SFI Science Writer of the Year at the SMEDIAS in 2015, Erice Science Journalism fellowship 2020). I'm a member of the ABSW (Association of British Science Writers) and of the ISTJA (Irish Science and Technology Journalists Association).

My academic research on geoscience, science communication, public perception of geoscience and climate change coping strategies has also been published in scientific journals, including PLOS One and Geoscience Communication.
