Join us for a nourishing Beltane (May Day) Retreat in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains on 3 May, as we gather to celebrate the beginning of summer, and our deepening connection with nature and the land through a mindful hike and riverside sauna.
Beltane has long been celebrated as the festival that marks the start of summer, a time of warmth, fertility, growth, and abundance. Traditionally, it is a moment of transition when the land moves fully into its most vibrant phase, flowers open, wildlife is active, and the days stretch longer. This retreat offers space to pause, celebrate this seasonal turning point, and reconnect with nature as summer begins to unfold.
Our day begins with a gentle, mindful hike through the woodlands, lakeshores, and valleys of Glendalough, guided at a relaxed pace. Along the way, we’ll practice forest bathing and seasonal mindfulness, pausing to notice the richness of late spring and early summer: lush green growth, birdsong, wildflowers, and the warmth returning to the land.
We’ll also weave in nature learning and gentle education, exploring the geological story of Glendalough: how fire, ice, time, and stone have shaped this landscape, and how these ancient processes support the thriving ecosystems we see at the beginning of summer.
After the walk, we’ll unwind together at a private riverside sauna near the Avonmore River, with time for optional cold-water dips. We’ll close the day with a grounding tea ceremony and a Beltane-inspired nature craft by the fire, helping us integrate the energy of the season and step into summer feeling restored and connected.
